About the CFMS
The CFMS is an organization representing over 8,000 medical students from 15 Canadian medical student societies from coast to coast. We represent medical students to the public, to the federal government, and to national and international medical organizations. The CFMS has received various calls to action from its membership in response to the resignations of Yotakahron Jonathan and Santanna Hernandez. We are committed to reviewing them fully and developing implementation plans in partnership with Indigenous faculty, community members, and medical students to be presented at our 2021 Spring General Meeting. We have created a page on our website that outlines our current anti-racism efforts and that will be regularly updated as we make progress.
An independent, trauma-informed, and culturally safe investigation has been started to encompass the concerns raised by Yotakahron Jonathan and Santanna Hernandez, in line with our Anti-Violence, Harassment & Discrimination Policy. We will ensure that a report is released to our membership upon completion of the investigation in the spirit of transparency. We expect that the report will include recommendations for the organization as well as the individuals involved and will be releasing an action plan to address the recommendations within 30 days of the report’s release.
We are committed to unlearning and educating ourselves in partnership with those with lived experiences to ensure that we can create safe spaces within the CFMS for all, in the spirit of reconciliation.
