About the CFMSThe CFMS is an organization representing over 8,000 medical students from 15 Canadian medical student societies from coast to coast. We represent medical students to the public, to the federal government, and to national and international medical organizations.
CFMS is holding a call for the Director of Global Health position on the CFMS Board of Directors.
The Director Global Health (Dir. GH) is responsible for coordinating the CFMS Global Health Program. The Dir. GH takes the lead in forming and maintaining dynamic partnerships with Canadian and international organizations with respect to global health, international development, and public health. The Dir. GH works in partnership with International Federation of Medical Students-Quebec (IFMSA-Quebec) to implement programs that intersect the mandate of the CFMS Global Health Program and the strategic direction and initiatives of the International Federation of Medical Students (IFMSA). The Dir. GH serves as the President of the Canadian delegation to the IFMSA. The Dir. GH directly oversees seven National Officers and supports projects focused on such as reproductive and sexual health, Indigenous health, environmental health, human rights and peace, international exchanges, global health education, equity, diversity and inclusivity (EDI), and more.

The CFMS Board is committed to creating a safe environment for all medical students. We are engaging in cultural safety training, increasing communication and check-ins, as well as fostering relationship-building to ensure that the Director of Global Health receives the necessary support to succeed. The Global Health team is committed to welcoming the new Director and supporting them in their transition to this role.

The form requires an interested individual to submit their name, school, email address, 4 short-answer responses and a condensed CV (no more than 2 pages).
Candidates will be contacted for an interview to be scheduled between January 11th and 15th. The successful candidate will be announced by January 16th and begin serving on the CFMS Board immediately.
As per the CFMS By-laws, “Only individual medical student members and individual members-at-large who have attained the age of eighteen years, are in good standing with the Federation and the federal government as per the Act, and have the capacity to contract shall be eligible for the Board of Directors”.
The Director of Global Health’s term will end at the CFMS Annual General Meeting (September 2021).
Please note that the CFMS Board Winter Board Meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10th and 17th virtually. The new Director will be expected to attend this meeting on Jan 17th. In the event you have class or clinical duties that conflict with these responsibilities, we will support you to write a letter to your medical school requesting a leave of absence for these activities.
