About the CFMS

The CFMS is an organization representing over 8,000 medical students from 15 Canadian medical student societies from coast to coast. We represent medical students to the public, to the federal government, and to national and international medical organizations.

CFMS Call for Applications: Fall Nomination Committee Call 2018

As the representative voice of Canadian medical students, the Canadian Federation of Medical Students (CFMS) represents you and your colleagues to many national medical organizations including the Canadian Medical Association, the College of Family Physicians, the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and others.

Each fall and winter, the CFMS selects a new group of talented individuals to help represent medical students to these organizations and offers a chance to general CFMS members to be involved in shaping the future of medicine in Canada. Volunteering for these positions allows students to learn more about medical education, health promotion and more, all while acting as the voice of Canadian medical students.

National Officer IT Jr. (Application here)

The National Officer of Information Technology serves an important role in the service and maintenance of CFMS technological infrastructure. The officer works closely with the VP Communications, VP Student Affairs, and CFMS General Manager as well as other Executives, National Officers and CFMS Representatives on an ongoing basis.

National Officer Education (Application here)

The Vice-Chair of the Education Committee will act as the manager of the Education Committee. The Vice-Chair will have experience in medical education research or policy. It will be the responsibility of the Vice-Chair to stand in for the Vice-President if needed and to liaise with education-related projects undertaken by the CFMS general membership. Duties will include also setting up Education Committee teleconferences, taking minutes during Education Committee meetings, manage task management software, communicate with ex officio Education Committee members, and lead the CFMS Academic Roundtable. National Officer Research Jr. (Application here)  

The National Officer of Research (NOR) position was created to support the translation of CFMS projects into peer reviewed works. The NOR will be responsible for organizing the agenda of the CFMS Research Program, and developing a knowledge dissemination strategy to aid in evidence based advocacy for medical students. Additionally, the NOR will provide support to all portfolios of the CFMS to coordinate research initiatives and projects, serve as a source of expertise in research to the membership, and build a network of relevant partners to establish and advance the goals of the representative body to impact the larger academic community.

National Officer Services (Application here)

The CFMS is seeking a national officer of services and partnerships. This position will fall directly under VP Student Affairs and chair the student affairs committee. The CFMS maintains many services and partnerships, requiring regular maintenance of professional relationships and frequently exploring additional service and partnership opportunities. This position is extremely important as it advocates for the majority of opportunities that CFMS members will benefit from during their membership.

Over the past few years, there has been rising interest in the deals provided to students by CFMS and we are committed to ensuring all medical students can benefit from our many services and partnerships that offer a variety of discounts and offers from external organizations. The successful applicant will collaborate directly with the VP Student Affairs and they will ensure current relationships are strengthened and new opportunities developed.
