The CFMS Student Initiative Grants were established in 2007 to provide support and funding to medical student initiatives. The fund was established in response to the increasing number of medical student run initiatives and the need for official and financial support from our national student organization.
Over the last two years many successful projects have benefitted from direct CFMS funding including charitable, educational and social events all organized by medical students. The Student Initiative Grants are back by popular demand for 2009 with increased overall funding. The goal is to assist students in realizing events or initiatives that promote interaction between CFMS students and member schools. Deadlines for the 2009/2010 academic year are October 31, 2009 and February 28, 2010. At these times, all applications that have been received will be scored and the successful applicants will be notified promptly.
The criteria for your proposed initiative to be accepted and eligible for CFMS funding is based on the following guidelines: -promotion of inter-school collaboration
-potential ability to increase CFMS visibility
-alignment with CFMS priorities and/or its ability to expand the current activities of the CFMS
-sustainability
-practicality and level of planning in the proposal
-bonus points for a project from a otherwise underrepresented geographic area in the competition
-bonus points for a project that represents a new or underserviced area in the CFMS priority list or the competition
Some examples of projects that received funding in the past are:
- The Manitoba Perinatal Loss Education Workshop
- McMaster's Healthforall.ca website
- Western Canada's Icebowl
- NOSM's HumerUs! Magazine
- McGill's "Initiative Benin"
CFMS Translation Support / Support de traduction FEMC
The CFMS is a national organization and as such we believe in promotion of both of Canada’s official languages. Currently the CFMS is increasing the bilingual content of its operations. As part of this initiative we have secured pilot funds for translation support that we are making available to CFMS members.
This program is for medical student projects, events and activities that require professional written translation, and may include letters, promotional materials, important documents, invitations and more.
